If your company is targeted by activist groups on social media we recommend you DO NOT engage directly with the posts. Commenting will only fan the flames. No net benefit will come of it.
There are some things you can and should do:

    • The companies that have been called out should monitor their social media accounts carefully. If activists are flooding posts with negative comments, it might make sense to a) turn off comments b) go dark / take a break from posting for a few days.
    • Companies should train staff on how to handle a emails, messages, phone calls from concerned customers. Ideally, these concerns should be routed to a designated spokesperson at the company who is trained to talk about these things.
Messaging should focus on why pest control is necessary, all of the components of IPM, training and licensing of technicians, use of EPA registered products, and following label instructions, etc. Do NOT speculate. For example, DO NOT guess how rodenticides could get to non-target animals.
    • Regarding Google reviews, deescalate these concerns by trying to take the conversation offline. You may be able to work with the platform to have reviews removed.
